Here's some of the projects that I’m proud to have played a part in over the years.

Bag End

Completed: March 2025

This former estate owned property was in need of a full renovation, when purchased by the client. With it being grade II listed, all appropriate measures were taken to ensure that it was sympathetically restored.

The damp, old plasters were removed from every wall prior to me starting. I then replaced them with a, hot mixed, lime render, containing flax fibre as a binder.

My top coat, containing hot mixed lime, crushed limestone and horse hair, was then used to finish the walls.

Each corner was fitted with a staff bead and finished with quirks to provide a classic looking finish.

Daleside

Completed: May 2024

This was a full external re-render of a grade II listed farmhouse.

Working to the specifications agreed with the National Park, the old renders, comprising both cement and lime sections, were removed. Followed by the application of three coats of lime render, using quicklime, local sand and horsehair. Subsequent coats of lime wash were then applied to all elevations to achieve full coverage. The stone heads above the windows were also restored with some stone repair mortar.

The client Andrew had his own construction/property development company for years so was well versed in large projects and his help was invaluable, from helping me to apply the render to using the JCB to lift the plaster onto the scaffold. This job really did run like clockwork.

The way this property stands out against the valley side, when the sun hits it, really does look impressive.

Low Mill

Done between September 2022 and April 2023 this six month project was completed for the Lucas Estate.

The Clients brief on this farmhouse and dairy was to use a natural, hot lime based, plaster with insulating properties and to maintain the natural curves of the walls.

I designed a natural, “breathable”, hemp lime render base coat that contained quicklime, hemp shiv, pumice, horse hair and local sand.

This was laid on in multiple coats, totalling 60mm thick, with the hemp and pumice providing natural insulation. This was then finished with a lime putty based top coat to provide a smooth, paintable finish.

Project managed by Harland Builders and designed by Bramhall Blenkharn Leonard Architects.

The Lime House

This stunning house, of straw bale construction, was featured in the Yorkshire Post as one of the largest and best examples of straw bale construction in Yorkshire.

Since it’s completion in 2018, the external lime render, on the north facing elevation, had been exposed to excessive weathering and as a result was starting to fail.

A plan to build a sacrificial stud wall in front of the north wall, lined with wood wool boards and a cement lime render, was put in place by the owner and Nigel Copsey.

The wall was built for me and lined by the joiner and in the summer of 2022 I rendered it with a cement lime render.

Set in the rolling green Hambleton Hills, this farmhouse was another complete renovation. This Grade II listed property required a complete renovation.

Due to it being a listed building, lime plaster was required throughout.

Keepers Cottage

Situated above Pickering, overlooking the historic steam railway that runs to Whitby.

I did the plastering on this house when it was fully renovated in 2020 and went back this year (2023) to plaster the extension.
